From Plain Concrete to a Backyard Worth Living In
The homeowners had a functional patio — but it was just plain concrete under an existing pergola.
It worked, but it didn’t invite anyone to linger. They wanted a space that felt finished and comfortable: somewhere to relax, entertain, and actually enjoy the backyard, with a design that softened the hard lines of the slab.
Rather than a standard rectangular deck, they wanted something with character. The answer was a custom radius deck — a gently curved profile that wraps the space and turns a flat slab into the centerpiece of the yard.
Bending Composite, Board by Board
A radius deck is one of the most demanding builds in outdoor living — and it’s a craft we specialize in. The curve isn’t cut; each composite board is carefully heated and bent to follow the radius, then locked into a curved substructure built to hold the shape.
The hard part is heat. Composite has a narrow window — too cool and the board won’t take the bend, too hot and you compromise the material. Our team dialed in the exact working temperature, leaned on the manufacturer’s specs, and ran practice boards until every curve came off the jig clean.
The result is a seamless, flowing edge with no hard corners — built over the existing patio footprint and tied into the home’s pergola and landscaping.
